As close as records show, the B & G Milkyway first opened in 1953. This old fashioned drive-in was opened up at 2410 W. 12th Street in Sioux Falls, SD. The original restaurant is still in operation today. The name originated from the original owners, Bertha and Guy (B & G) Higgins. The Higgins’ purchased a drive-in by the name of Ray’s Diner and shortly thereafter changed its name to the B & G Milkyway.

I grew up in Sioux Falls and have never found a soft serve equal to B & G Milky Way. The strawberry soft serve today tasted exactly like it did over 30 years ago—scrumptious!
Best ice cream place in SD!!! Tons of ice cream options and the hot food is so underrated!
My family and I ate here this past Sunday and were served so well. I kept asking question after question and the girl at the window went above and beyond to help me figure out what I would enjoy. Props to you for great customer service and delicious food!
I went to B & G for my first time this spring and have gone back 4-5 times since. I love their dipped cones, which are always a generous size. No matter which location I’ve gone to, the service has been great and very friendly. Highly recommend trying them!
Love this place and have for over 40 years! The ice cream is so good and the selection is pretty great too. I have taken my kids here many times and now I take my grandkids and they all seem to like it as much as my wife and I do. So stop in, cool off, and enjoy. Too bad it isn’t open all year long. I eat ice cream even when it snows out!
